Test Kitchen: Rachael Ray BBQ Chicken Burgers
I cooked my way through the Rachael Ray BBQ Chicken Burgers last night. Man they were good! They had the most amazing burst of flavor.
I was excited to test a new recipe from her cookbook The Book of Burger, and when I opened it up and saw this burger recipe, I just stared at it. Fennel seeds??? Pancetta? Ugh…that meant I had to go to the store. But, I got myself motivated and I went to the store to pick up the necessary supplies. (Unfortunately, there wasn’t any pancetta at the store, so I picked up some bacon as a substitute. I mean, come on. Who doesn’t like bacon?!?!)
The recipe’s steps were simple, which I am all about. I placed all of the herbs and spices in a bowl with the chicken and mixed everything together. Then, I molded my mixture into patties and placed them on a scorching hot pan to let them cook.
The next step was making the delicious BBQ sauce. It was made with balsamic vinegar and Worcestershire sauce, along with a little brown sugar, onions and, of course, the bacon! As it thickened up on the stove, the flavors started to concentrate. Yum!
I decided to really test my boundaries and make Brussels sprouts as a side. As a child, I was never a fan of them. But, I thought I’d give them a go. I roasted up the Brussels sprouts, coating them in olive oil, red pepper flakes (for some kick), and some salt and pepper. They were really good. In fact, Brussels spouts may be my new favorite veggie!!!
We also paired the burgers with some good old French fries. It was a great meal.
