wedding planning

I found a couple of wedding planning articles I would love to highlight. I could not help but share some of the insights, because I have been guilty of many of these things! It is how I have been feeling lately. Wedding planning can be fun, but can also be stressful at times.

6 Things People Don’t Tell You Before Your Wedding That You Should Know

Things No One Tells You About Wedding Planning

11 Things No One Tells You About Wedding Planning

Here are a couple of things from the article on The Knot that I’m definitely guilty of:

At least one not-so-minor unexpected expense will pop up. Whether it’s weather (gotta rent a tent ’cause it looks like rain) or whimsy (gotta get a backup gown ’cause I can’t make up my mind), something that wasn’t in your budget will materialize. Solved: Even the tightest budget needs a little wiggle room. Build in a buffer (5 percent of the overall budget) from the start, so you won’t have to worry every time the wind blows.

You’re talking wedding way, way more than you think. Have you busted your bestie rolling her eyes when she thought you were too busy expanding on the virtues of fondant vs. buttercream to see? Did your mom start to glaze over the last time you tried to show her pictures of bouquets? Yeah, you’re guilty. Solved: First, accept that you might not actually be able to press pause on the compulsive wedding chatter. Hey, you’re excited, and that’s cool! But expecting one or two people to listen to all of it? Too much. Share the love. Spread the obsessing out over a wider circle of friends (that’s what cubemates are for, right?) and space it out, so you can spare them all, including your fiance, from bride (that would be you) burnout.

Do you have any wedding planning insights to share? I’d love to hear from you!

Nisa Burns and Carolyn Cox

My wedding planning is coming along!

There’s still a lot to do, but now it’s just figuring out the small details. Lately, I have been stressing over wedding shoes, what to wear with my dress, the centerpieces, seating charts, sending invites out, and a bunch of other small details that go along with getting married.

I could not do any of this without my AMAZING maid of honor! She has kept me in line and in check, has calmed me down, and has spent countless hours with me talking about wedding stuff. (more…)

A Kitchenability Wedding Update!

Wednesday, June 18th, 2014

Hello, all!

Well, the Big Day is getting closer and closer as the months go by!

I have my first dress fitting next month and I cannot wait to put it on. I actually haven’t seen the dress I picked out since January, so I may just cry a little — in a good way — when I see it again.

I also recently received some lace from my grandmother. It was lace from her grandmother’s wedding dress — my great grandmother. I plan to wrap it around my bouquet as my something “old.”

Nisa Burns and Billy

As many of you know, I got engaged over the holidays!

The story of our engagement is pretty cute:

My now fiance Billy and I started dating 6 1/2 years ago. And for Christmas, Billy gave me an empty jewelry box! Now, after being with someone for 6 1/2 years and then receiving an empty jewelry box… you can imagine my surprise, and confusion. I was not happy!

For about a week he messed with me. Then, one night I decided to head to the gym and workout. When I came home, Billy was there dressed in a suit with a red bow tie. He was cooking me a pasta dinner and there were lit candles on the table. After some great dinner conversation and a glass of wine, I went in for seconds, to get a little more pasta, and when I turned around he was (more…)

Nisa Burns on The Hampton Roads Show

I filmed another segment for The Hampton Roads Show this week. And as you can see in the photo above, I had a lot of fun serving my hummus to the show’s co-host Chris Reckling. Ha!

This time on the show, I made my Banana Cinnamon Waffles from Kitchenability 101, my Mediterranean Pasta (which can be made in a rice cooker!) and my Easy Hummus recipe. (more…)

Kitchenability in Orlando and Tampa, FL – Take 2!

Friday, July 19th, 2013

I am starting to feel like airports are my second home now, since I’ve been trekking all over the place lately!

This week, I was in Orlando and Tampa, Florida, making my first appearance on WFLA’s Daytime TV show and my second appearance on the show Life Love Shopping.

I had so much fun filming both shows!

Here’s me visiting Daytime, including a photo of me on the set with host Jerry Penacoli:

On Daytime, I made a quick and easy Greek Salad that’s great for on-the-go eating. Just quickly toss it with some olive oil and lemon and then put in a to-go container to eat at work, after class — whenever! I also made my Mint and Cucumber Sandwiches from Kitchenability 101. You can watch that segment on the Daytime website here. (more…)

Nisa Burns on Life Love ShoppingToday was my second day in Orlando. To find out how the first day of my trip went, read my Day 1 post

I had to get up at 5:45am today, to get my hair and makeup done for the filming of my Kitchenability segment for Life Love Shopping on Oxygen.

I headed to the studio around 7:30am to prep my ingredients for the segment and to get everything for the shoot all set up. My mom was the great picture taker and videographer!

We did two takes during the interview and the second one was the charm. It will be airing June 11th on Life Love Shopping. The hosts, Michelle and Rachel, were amazing. I enjoyed chatting with them both a lot! (more…)

Kitchenability in Orlando, FL: Day 1

airplane at gate | @kitchenability

Yesterday I flew to Orlando, FL. The reason for my trip? To film a Kitchenability segment for Life Love Shopping.

My mom decided to tag along with me on this trip, so we got up super early (I’m talking 3 am) to head to the airport.

When we got to Orlando, we both were hungry, so we found a great little place called Italio to have lunch. It reminded me of a Chipotle, but Italian-style. You could pick a wrap, salad, or pasta and put on whatever toppings you like! My mom and I enjoyed a delicious salad topped with lots of veggies and grilled chicken. We also shared something we both thought was very interesting: cannoli chips. They were really good! (more…)
