3 Things I Wish I’d Known Before Getting Married
My husband and I got married this past fall, on November 1st. It was truly the best day of our lives. As a bride, it was everything (and more) I had ever hoped for and dreamed of. And my vision was brought to life thanks to a wonderful team of people and close friends. Yet, amid the wedding day hustle and bustle, I did have a couple of regrets — things I wish I had known before walking down the aisle.
- You will invite people you have never met, like your parents’ friends. Someone will always make you feel bad about something, and you cannot please everyone. Getting worked up about it will only make it worse. Everyone in your family will want to insert their opinion. They will feel like they are helping, but, at the end of the day, it’s your day not theirs… So, do what you want!
- You will pay for extra stuff that never gets used. It happens. Whether it is candies, goodies, extra signage, etc… just know it will happen. I probably spent more money on the last minute stuff than I really wanted to. For example, I purchased umbrellas for the wedding party because “it was supposed to rain.” Yes, it did rain a little, but it turned into an epic wind storm instead, and no one even went outside. Long story short, the umbrellas never got used. Oh well. I was in bridal brain mode.
- The wedding goes by way too fast. You spend almost a year planning the most amazing day of your life, down to each little detail, and it’s over before you know it. I was shocked by how fast it went. Many had told me it would go by quickly, but I didn’t realize how quickly, so my advice is to take little mental snap shots and savor the moment!
Being a somewhat newlywed now, I am loving married life, and I am looking forward to what the future holds for us. I honestly wouldn’t trade our crazy, windy special day for anything in the world.
