Warm and Delicious Italian Hot Chocolate Recipe
Have you ever had Italian hot chocolate? If not, you’re in for a serious treat, especially if you’re a chocolate lover.
The Italian version of hot chocolate is much richer and thicker than what you may traditionally think of as a hot chocolate here in the U.S. It’s actually almost pudding like, but still more of a drinkable treat than something you’d need to consume with a spoon.
It’s the perfect treat for warming up after a day out in cold. I think this recipe will quickly become a fan favorite in your household!
Note: This recipe was originally published on my blog at Parade Magazine.
- 2½ cups chocolate (½ milk chocolate and ½ dark chocolate)
- 1½ cups milk
- 3 Tbsp milk
- Pinch of salt
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 3 tsp corn starch
- In a small pot, slowly heat the chocolate with 3 Tbsp of milk on low.
- As soon as the chocolate begins to melt, turn off the heat and add in salt, sugar, and 1 cup of milk. Stir till all is incorporated.
- Turn heat to low-medium, and keep stirring.
- In a small bowl, mix together corn starch and ½ cup cold milk until dissolved.
- Slowly add this to the hot chocolate and stir until smooth. Once smooth, turn the heat to low. It will eventually get thicker as it sits.
- Turn off the heat when serving and top with marshmallows if desired.
