Weighing in on the Cronut Craze!

I had to write about my incredible cronut experience at La Dolce Vita in Virginia Beach, VA!

I cannot actually call these wonderful delights “cronuts”, of course, because the name has already been taken and trade marked by the creator of the cronut, Chef Dominique Ansel.

For now, the La Dolce Vita Bakery and Cafe has given them the name: the beach croissant doughnut. And, they are holding a contest on their Facebook page to see if anyone will come up with something more witty and unique!

They only make them on Sunday mornings and man is it worth getting up a little early for these flakey delights! I was so excited my small beach hometown was on the map for the next food craze, and you bet I was first in line for one of these amazing treats!

Each layer was heavenly coated in cinnamon and sugar, and filled with homemade cannoli cream! They are in such demand you are only allowed two per customer!

Dominique Ansel, their creator, really set the next fun food craze in motion!

Here’s a quick video of me with my yummy cronut:

Have you had a cronut yet? If not, you should!
