Decadent Desserts: Chocolate Mousse Recipe

By Nisa Burns

One of my favorite easy-to-make and easy-to-impress desserts is chocolate mousse. Who doesn’t love a dish or cup full of creamy chocolate decadence topped with whipped cream? I mean, seriously.

I like to chill little dishes of mousse ahead of time when I’m hosting a dinner party. It makes the dessert portion of the evening really easy and flexible, since there’s no baking or reheating or, really, any serving necessary with these if you plan ahead.

Chocolate Mousse Recipe

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 2 oz of melted unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 tsp vanilla

1. First, place the heavy whipping cream in a bowl fitted with a mixer, or use a hand egg beater

2. Beat the whipping cream till soft peaks form

3. Add in the sugar, vanilla and salt (Note: Don’t over mix; the mixture will turn into butter if mixed too much)

4. Fold in the chocolate with a rubber spatula (To “fold,” scoop the whipped cream mixture up and under, incorporating the chocolate throughout)

5. Chill or freeze till it’s time to serve (about 30-40 minutes in the fridge)

6. Top with whipped cream and enjoy!
